It is indeed that time of the year when everybody is running about finding the perfect gift to give and attending parties everywhere.  I am reminded however, not to miss the true essence of Christmas.  It is not my birthday, but Jesus’.  We are celebrating Him more than anything.  For our noche buena dinner, we have reserved a seat for Him at our table.  As He lives in us, we celebrate what Jesus’ coming means so much to us because His coming gives us hope and a future.

We are all fond of helping out each other with the gifts to give each other by posting wish lists on our bedroom doors.  We do this in the family to help make it easier for people to give something that the person wishes to have.  This year, I decided not to have ANY thing but to have SOME thing with my family.  I asked them not to give me something you can buy but to give me something we can share like a moment, experience or a memory.  It baffled my children for a while but as I look around me, I am more than content with the things that I own.  I just wish to continue to build memories that create deep imprints in my heart about our shared moments.

That for me is a taste of heaven which is all about Christmas.  We all have our own interpretations of the season.  I just know there is one thing I won’t want to leave out in this time of the year and that is THE Christ in Christmas.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
