The Cross

What is a cross?

My daughter, Solana was thrilled at the thought of going to Boracay.

She asked me if that was the beach where there was a statue of the cross.  I was not quite sure I remember seeing a cross in Boracay but she said a cross is this:  one standing line and one sleeping line as she has drawn here-

As soon as we got to the beach, I searched for a cross.  Lo, and behold-there is was just by our resort at the Discovery Shores Boracay!  How could she have remembered it?  The last time we were here was two years ago, also during Holy Week.  Somehow it has been imprinted in her tiny brain that indeed there was a cross there and it looked exactly like this photo I grabbed from the internet..

As I thought about the cross on Good Friday, I realise how children so get it- one standing line for me means stability and strength and the sleeping line is rest. Knowing Christ died for me because He loves me, assures me I am loved and is precious in His sight.  What better assurance do I need when I have my God to lean on.  Because Jesus came to save me thru His death and resurrection, I have hope that my future is clear so I can rest and surrender all my cares to Jesus.  I don’t need to labor so hard to make my life work.

Holy Week is yes about His death but more so about His rising from the dead and that is what I celebrate.
