We have capped our race year 2014 with our Team Pangilinan race at the 7th Anvaya Cove Invitational Triathlon organised by TRAP . Funny how we end right where we started.  Our Team Pangilinan was born in the same race exactly seven years ago (thanks to the prompting of our dear friend , Fernando Zobel de Ayala and his whole family) and we have not been the same ever since.  Every time we approach this expanse, we are in awe at how we have been woven together by this one sport that has made a huge difference in our lives..

In the past, our children would race their own Super Tri Kids races( and when they started, they just borrowed the bikes and other gear that was readily available in the resort) while Anthony and I also did our own respective races for adults.  Times have changed through the years when the kids have to eventually graduate and take a rest to allow development of their bones and muscles, and delve into other sports .  This year proved to be a very special year.

At the last minute, we decided to do a relay in Anvaya and have the kids take the lead.  Since they have specialised in their own sports, we allowed them to express that in a tri race.  It’s great to share this passion with friends as well like in this photo with celebrity tri couple Iya and Drew Arellano.

It has been a long while since Hannah has competed in a race that starts with an ocean swim but she courageously dove into it to emerge as the first out of 20 relay participants out of the water!

It was an amazing site to see her back so soon and we were kind of caught off guard and I fumbled with my camera but good thing that GM-Glen Fabricante (of Anvaya) caught this— My baby is a fish, haha!

Hannah came out of the water in a jiffy and so that meant that Anthony will have to stay at a steady pace to keep the lead.  This proved to be a demanding task for Anthony who didn’t want to disappoint Donny who was just raring to begin his run.

Donny told his daddy not to take his time in the gruelling Anvaya hills so he won’t have to wait too long before he is off.

Anthony is not one who takes such declarations lightly and of course he wants to prove to his kids that he still has what it takes to take this race to the next level and boy, did he not disappoint!

As soon as Anthony finished, Donny zoomed thru the  5 kilometer rolling hills route….

When you have a natural runner traverse thru the majestic views the present itself, it just inspires and Donny has ran this course as a little boy, a tweener and then now as a teen and he was transported to a very familiar happy place….

Little did we know though, that things weren’t so ideal as it seemed for halfway thru the course, Donny was actually in pain.  His stomach acted up and he was faced with two options: to head off to the nearest toilet or to bear it and finish pronto….

He took the road less travelled, and the rest is as they say…history!

The best way to finish a well organised , super pumped up race is to indulge in a relaxing massage…that’s what I love about the Anvaya Invitational Triathlon- it’s a super family event that provides the best well organised course with the pamperings that come with the resort’s amazing amenities and most of all their beautiful set of people to cheer you on from beginning to end…

…even the team supporters had a blast.  Ella, Benj, Solana and I may not have raced but we were happy to have worked behind the scenes and on the sidelines to make sure that this family race was a success.  The best part is that we get to have fun together.

The family that do sports together becomes proactively and productively disciplined together. I believe in the power of sports, among other tools, which cultivates collaborative team spirit, sportsmanship, leadership and focused, healthy lifestyle for everyone.

Starting everyone young in sports, among others, instills these good habits in our youth. Personally, I found that involving and exposing my girls with all kinds of sports, whether, competitive or non-competitive while growing up (especially during the summer, unlike the previous era/generation of Filipinos when playing sports for girls (and boys) was uncommon, and considered unladylike) have helped them in many ways.

Hopefully, the Philippine education system has Included sports in the elementary, high school curriculum in both public and private schools.

Again, kudos to you and your family for leading, exposing, and empowering your children with
the essential life tools to be productive, decent adults.
